What you need to know about pool fence compliance on the Mid North Coast

Pool fence compliance trips up more home pool installs than almost anything else on the Mid North Coast. The rules under AS 1926.1 are detailed, and getting them wrong means a re-inspection at best and a failed certification at worst. Here's the short version of what matters.

Height and gap requirements

Pool fences need to be at least 1200mm high above ground level, with no gap underneath bigger than 100mm. Vertical gaps between panels or pickets also cap at 100mm. Glass panels usually handle this cleanly, but the spigot or mini-post spacing has to be planned for it.

The non-climbable zone

There has to be a clear 900mm zone outside the fence with nothing climbable in it — pots, BBQs, retaining walls, garden beds. This catches a lot of clients out after the fact, so it's worth planning the surrounds before the fence goes in.

Gates and hardware

Pool gates need to be self-closing, self-latching, and the latch has to sit at least 1500mm above the ground. We install soft-close hinges and certified latches as standard on every glass pool fence.

If you're planning a new pool or upgrading an existing fence, we'll walk you through what's required for your site before anything goes in the ground.

If you're starting to plan a build or renovation, we'd love to hear about it. Get in touch for a free, no-obligation conversation.
